Fashion Publication Refinery29 did an investigative documentary on the secrets behind makeup products. This video is totally worth watching if you are a lover of makeup. If you aren’t living under a rock, you would recall that in 2018, Refinery29 put out a documentary on why Kylie Jenner Lip Kit could be potentially dangerous to consumers.
In this Documentary, they unravel the unethically sourced ingredients behind most makeup products. It further shows the role of forced child labour in the production of Makeup.
One of the causes of Child labour Deaths in India is the mining of Mica ( a mineral used to create shimmer in most makeup products). In the cause of going into caves in search of Mica for the beauty industry, some children lose their lives.
This Documentary is an Eye-opener. After the footage was released on the 5th of May, there has been a huge search by makeup users for makeup brands that use Mica so they can be boycotted lol.

A lot of people are outraged over child labour abuse in India as a result of Mica Mining. It’s truly sad what those kids have to go through.
The Makeup brands that use Mica in beauty products include; Estée Lauder, MAC, Rimmel, Bobbi Brown, Clinique, Too Faced.
Funny enough, these are all high-end brands. Oh well, we hope to see more mica free makeup brands in the nearest future.
